Video Games [Sep. 5th, 2008|01:31 pm]
Hello all, I wonder if anyone still reads this. Hopefuly it still shows up on friend's pages.

Anyways, I'm getting a new computer and so will be able to play video games made after 2003.

So, what are the best games of the last five years? Any genre, no matter how obvious.

We still exist! [Feb. 17th, 2008|09:00 pm]
We've been looking at the AFI movie lists (which I hope to rant about later) but right now we have a sort of Challenge:

Movie series whose second movie is better then their first:
Our contributions:
-Star Wars

Our other game was movies which have remakes and both versions are good:
Kate goes for Sabrina and Italian Job. My tastes are a lot more flexible so I don't really count.

Please chime in.

(no subject) [Sep. 18th, 2007|05:56 pm]
I haven't been updating because there is too much to say. Calgary has a very different feel from Ontario. I love being able to see the mountains on my way up to my office. The trees here are very boring, they are small and don't have very nice fall colours. The whole place is shades of green, yellow and brown. It does feel a little bit like a frontier society, the job market and rapid city growth both give the feeling of endless potential. Many people really do have trucks and cowboy hats.

School is going well. I don't really know what I'm supposed to be doing. I have to pick an area of research, so it is slow paced dabbling into whatever areas I care to look at. My classes look interesting, or at least useful. I am less sure about my TA position. I have my first tutorial tomorrow and I have a feeling I'm going to pass out before I get the chance to say anything.

We have our place and it is teh awesome. Nick posted pictures on facebook, so that is the place to see them. The number of sandboxes was greatly exaggerated. I am happy with our place and Nick and I are cohabiting well. I miss the people in Toronto and Lennoxville a lot. I hope you are all doing well. Please keep in touch, I am curious about your goings on.

Calgary [Sep. 13th, 2007|11:10 am]
Hello all,

Kate and I are settling into Calgary. We've figured out classes and I've mostly figured out my degree. I'll (hopefuly) be doing a history degree with concentrations in military and religious history. My problem lies in that every humanities degree here requires a language and every social sciences degree requires high school math. I've decided that high school math is easier then a language so off to night school math I go. We'll be moving into our new house on saturday and hopefuly will be posting pictures of it soon. -Nick

Packing [Aug. 31st, 2007|07:58 pm]
I said goodbye to Nick this morning. He and his dad are doing a grueling three day cross country road trip to the New World. I leave early Sunday morning and arrive before them. I'm sure his trip will be much more epic than mine.

I have started saying some of my final goodbyes over the last week. Last night at my work party I said goodbye to my friends from work, who were absolutely wonderful this year. I said some really bad goodbyes to most of my Toronto friends last Sunday. Just because I was too tired to say it properly doesn't mean I won't miss you terribly.

It is much harder than I expected to say goodbye to the city. I'm going to miss my neighbourhood, the Danforth, and my running trails. I've never been so sad to leave a place as I am to leave Toronto after this summer.

Tonight I have to finish my packing because tomorrow is supposed to be all fun and games. I have a run planned in the morning, a walk with ice cream in the afternoon, and dinner at Tory's house in the evening. I am clearly delaying my packing.

I'll write again after I've reached the New World.

Final weekend plans. [Aug. 8th, 2007|11:29 pm]
Upcoming Stuff: These are all very hypothetical at this point:

August 18th (Saturday): 10th Edition Magic: The Gathering booster draft. You get in free but I keep everything.
August 19th (Sunday): Twilight Imperium 3rd Edition. Up to 8 people can play!

August 25th (Saturday): Kate and Nick's Going Away Party. We are going to calgary for ever and this would be our going away party.
August 26th (Sunday):Kate and Nick's Going Away nerd party. Going away party with lots of nerd games, magic cards and movies. Same as above but less drinking and more nerd things.

I'd like to get an idea of whether or not people are free on these weekends. I'm not sure the exact things will be happening on those days but there will defineately be some kind of parties before we leave.

Doctor Who? [Apr. 2nd, 2007|07:03 pm]
I'm going to talk about tv because school really isn't something I want to talk about right now.

The new season of Doctor Who has started. It makes me very happy. Martha Jones seems like an excellent follow up to Rose. They do share a kiss and there is some CPR action, but despite that it looks like their relationship will be entirely platonic. I was worried they would try and make him love each companion more than the last. Which is not something that they can sanely maintain. It would also cheapen his relationship with all his old girls. I am very excited about this years season, especially since Captain Jack Harkness is coming back. I don't know what I'll do with David Tennant(The (10th) Doctor) and John Barrowman(Captain Jack) on screen at the same time. Probably melt into a puddle of fan girl. Just be glad I'm not talking about Supernatural, the fan girl in me is going a little insane on that one. I am so ashamed of my obsessions. (That's why I am sharing them with the internet.)

School [Mar. 30th, 2007|02:37 pm]
I have unofficially been accepted to the University of Calgary. Next year I'm packing up and going West. I will play the Abba song once for every 100 miles of road. The master plan is to bring Nick and Julie along. I'm not really sure what to say. I am very very excited and also a little worried. -Kate

Edit: I mean the song by the village people. I assumed "Go West" was Abba because I know it from "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert."
